A Saturday with Weston

posted on: Monday, April 29, 2013

With Oren's birthday and party, and all the stuff that goes along with selling and buying a house it's safe to say we have been a little pre-occupied lately. Josh and I were feeling like Wes had been getting the short end of the stick when it came to our attention, so Saturday we asked Josh's sister, Nicole, to come watch Oren so we could take Wes out for some solo quality time. We had been planning on taking him to a movie but we woke up to the most beautiful day outside and there was just no way we could spend it indoors. Instead we decided to hit up all our favorite outdoor spots (all the same favorites I had as a kid) and made an afternoon out of it. Lunch at the A&W drive in, followed by Wes's favorite park and finally soft serve at the Stricklands across from the local airport where we licked our cones and watched all the little planes taking off and landing from our breezy spot in the grass. Wes even picked me a little bouquet of flowers. By the end of the day Wes was worn out, we were worn out (Nicole was worn out!) and I'd call it a Saturday officially conquered.

(shout outs to rence on this one ;)

(ps. when we got home, we found this adorable scene. love, love, love.)

Thank you, Nicole!!!

Oren's Train Birthday Party

posted on: Monday, April 22, 2013

So, about a month ago when I started planning Oren's 2nd birthday party he was REALLY into trains. He still is, but not quite to the level of obsession he has recently developed for batman. Meaning, it should have been a batman themed party but it was a little too late to switch gears. He did however wear his favorite batman shirt and superhero cape for most of the party, so, you know.

Anyway, we had so much help pulling off this party, as we always do. Abby helped me make the decorations and she made all of the delicious cupcakes. We also had a taco bar this year and she helped me make all the food for that as well. Lisa came over early and swept my floor and set up the tables. Josh's mom let us borrow her crock pots and other serving stuff. My mom made her famous chocolate-cherry cupcakes and brought over extra folding chairs. And I had the cake made by a local bakery. I mean, it takes a village, right?

So we owe a big THANK YOU to everyone for coming out and showing so much love to our brand new two year old, and to our wonderful families for helping us give our little man yet another spectacular birthday celebration.  We are lucky, lucky, lucky ducks.

Also, Colin and Elizabeth win for best birthday card...

nailed it.

Presents and Pie

We're getting ready for Oren's birthday party (which starts in just a few hours!) but I thought I'd take a quick break and share some photos of him from friday (his actual birthday). We gave him his gifts bright and early when he woke up, batman and more batman. He was a happy camper. Later that night, as tradition dictates, we had birthday pie courtesy of Abby. It was chocolate cream, and I think from the pictures you'll be able to tell that Oren was pretty in to it.

Alright, break over, I've got a train party to set up. Back with those photos soon!
