It could not have been a better night. I got to spend it with Josh, my dad and my stepmom Patty. A fantastic dinner on the patio at Zinc before the show, and one of the most mesmerizing bands I have ever had the privilege of seeing live. This band is incredible --- so unbelievably talented at their craft. Their 20+ years experience was more than evident. Stuart Matthewman practically made love to his saxophone and the backup singer played guitar and the flute. The freaking backup singer! The production was outstanding, the video and lighting were spot on and did I mention we had floor seats? The entire band changed costumes four times. Who does that?! And of course there was Sade herself. She was flawless, she was beautiful, she was just...Sade. What can I say? She's the standard by which I compare every other singer to. And no one has yet to come close. I will happily wait another ten years for a shot at one more night like this. Perfection.

No Ordinary Love

Saturday night I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Sade live for the first time in 10 agonizingly long years. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it was. I love that woman. I'm 27 years old and I think I've had a girl crush on her for about 26 of those years. Actually, a crush is probably too casual a term. I would say it's definitely more of a long term monogamous relationship and I'm currently considering having her babies and planning for our retirement.

First of all, our day started with this...
so, we knew it was going to be good
(homemade banana bread french toast)
Then there was the neighborhood kid's parade
(in case you were wondering, wes did not win for
best decorated bike or trike. next year it's so on)
Then a little swimming
A cookout/eat in
(my grandma lillian's potato salad recipe. I miss her so!)
(I sent ben a text earlier asking him to bring two liters --- as in soda.
sufficed to say, he read it wrong)
(then we sang happy birthday to america and ate the delicious cake abby made)
And of course, fireworks (and fireflies)
(special thanks to marisa, victor and jessica for the fantastic photos!)

Stuff. And Other Things

The last couple weeks have been a bit nuts. We had an amazing/exhausting 4th of July and I haven't even begun to sort through the pictures yet. But they're coming, I swear. Also, as I may have mentioned our baby sitter just up and quit on us. And the best part? She sent me a text on a Tuesday night saying she was moving to Michigan on Friday. As in three days from then. So, that was cool. (Hey, thanks for all the notice! Oh, and texting me the news was an especially nice touch). We interviewed three babysitters this weekend and this is how they went: bad, really bad and you've got to be kidding me. (Does it count as an interview if you drive by one of their houses and are too scared to even go in???) So, our search continues. And I will just continue walking around feeling constantly nauseous and crippled with anxiety until we find someone I'm comfortable with. Good times.
And my baby brother and his friend Shane played their first show as their new band Cities and Years. We've been waiting a long time for this and they did not disappoint. In fact, they were amazing (no, seriously, they were. I'm not just saying that because he's my brother). I'm so, so proud of them! Also, you need to see my brother's calf muscles from all the drumming. I was formally introduced to them this weekend and holy cow, Tony Horton eat your heart out!
Then, there's work. Crazier than ever...in a good way. We're really busy so I can't complain. But nothing like coming back from a blissful maternity leave to our biggest and most hectic installation of the year.
(Here's a little peek - don't you just love it, though?!)

marisa gets the photo cred for these since her pictures came out
just a hair better than the ones I took on my awesome samsung solstice
Am I forgetting anything?... hmmm...
oh yeah!
I was also chased around by a shirtless robot. It was touch and go for a minute there, but luckily, I survived.
